29 Oct 2011: The power of letting go
1st Speaker: Sister Yasmin Mogahed
Sister Yasmin talked about the commonly said verse Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un". When we response to calamity with the verse, we will receive Mercy, Blessing and Guidance of Allah.
Wikipedia: " In Islam, Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un is part of the Quran, Sura Al-Baqara, Verse 156. The full verse is as follows:الذين اذا اصابتهم مصيبة قالوا انا لله وانا اليه راجعون "Who, when a misfortune overtakes them, say: 'Surely we belong to Allah and to Him shall we return'."
This is the phrase that Muslims recite when a person is struck by calamity in life, and is usually recited upon hearing the news of someone's death. This can also be recited in any situation involving risk of any sort. The phrase is commonly translated as "Verily we belong to God, and to God we return."
Muslims believe that God is the One who gives and that it is He who takes away; He is testing humankind. Hence, a Muslim submits to God and is grateful and thankful to God for whatever they receive. On the other hand, they are patient and say this expression in times of turmoil and calamity.
Abu Musa al-Ashari reported that the Prophet Muhammad said, "When a son of a servant of Allah dies, Allah Says to the angels, 'Have you taken the son of My servant?' They say, 'Yes.' Then Allah Says, 'Have you taken the fruit of his heart?' They say, 'Yes.' Allah Says, "What has My servant said?' They say, 'He has praised You and said, To Allah we belong and to Him is our return'. Then Allah Says, 'Build a house for My servant in Paradise and call it the house of praise.' From Tirmidhi, Musnad Ahmad and ibn Habban."
2nd Speaker: Ustaz Zahid
"Accepting what has PAST, embarking what is NOW, welcoming the uncertainties of TOMORROW with FAITH."
Understanding al-Qada (predestination event) & al-Qadar (predestination event takes place).
Surah Al-Furqan 25:2: Allah has created everything in a particular proportions & has determined the measures for its capabilities & potentialities.
Surah Sad 38:26: [We said], "O David, indeed We have made you a successor upon the earth, so judge between the people in truth and do not follow [your own] desire, as it will lead you astray from the way of Allah ." Indeed, those who go astray from the way of Allah will have a severe punishment for having forgotten the Day of Account.
Surah Al-Kahf 18:29: And say, "The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills - let him believe; and whoever wills - let him disbelieve." Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a fire whose walls will surround them. And if they call for relief, they will be relieved with water like murky oil, which scalds [their] faces. Wretched is the drink, and evil is the resting place.
Saidina Ali: Damned people whose today is worst than yesterday and tomorrow is worst than today.
Abdullah Ibn Amr: Work for the hereafter as if you are dying tomorrow.
Surah Ar-Raad 13:11: For each one are successive [angels] before and behind him who protect him by the decree of Allah . Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when Allah intends for a people ill, there is no repelling it. And there is not for them besides Him any patron.
3rd Speaker: Ustazah Maimunah Alhabshi
