27 Nov 2010: Islam.Women.Wealth
~ This was the day I signed up for Quranabic Essential & Core Course for Surah Al-Ikhlas. MasyaAllah! That day was also my first time listening to Sister Suria Mohd speaks. She is an inspiring speaker!~
By my lil sister, Nursafiqah Saad:
"I attended a seminar called Islam.Women.Wealth. the talk had really opened up my eyes and I wish that you too can learn something from my reflection. pardon me if u find this irrelevant to u. =/
Do you know that 400 000 muslims in Singapore paid a total of $20 million of zakat in one year, and in that same year, one chinese man had donated $ 200 million to the education fund? Why is there always a huge disparity?
Since forever, our community has a stigma. And that stigma is that wealth is bad. Having too much of it is bad. Money is evil. Money makes us forget about Allah. The more we have it, the more we are far away from Allah. How? Our dramas, sinetrons, all portray this culture.
Yes, we will be far from Allah if we have the WRONG intention. The intention of just making money for the benefit of our own selves. Our own family. We must strive to not only help ourselves with the wealth that we have. We must strive to help others. The bigger community. Have a bigger view. And with this intention in your mind and your heart, insyaallah, you will not be far away from Allah.
In fact, acquiring wealth is a highly spiritual journey. Allah said, ‘Spend in my way’. Spend in the way of Allah. Spend with the intention of getting closer to him. Make a business that will pave your path towards Him. Make money with the intention of helping you and others get closer to Him.
Allah has created us, human beings, to be the best creation among all creations. That means he presents to us our talents, our skills, our intelligence. So why cant we do something about it? Why can’t we share it with others? Always think and believe that YOU are the best. And with whatever ‘best’ that you have in you, make use of it.
Coz that is the problem in our community now. We stop ourselves from thinking BIG. We think we can’t do it. We think we don’t have resources. So we can’t start anything. We set tiny goals. A parent sets a goal such that he gets enough money so that his children can go to Disneyland. But that is not enough. No, we should set greater goals. Much bigger than that. And we should never stop once we think that we are successful enough. The sky’s the limit.
But again, go back to your intention. Your INTENTION of making money must be in alignment with Allah. It must be according to the teachings of Islam. And then ask yourself, HOW are you going to get your wealth? And lastly, ask yourself on WHAT are you going to spend your wealth on?
Coz Allah never said, do not spend. He encourages us to seek knowledge so that we can better ourselves.
So my friends, I am just sharing with you, and also as a reminder to myself, that with whatever knowledge that we have, let’s share them ok? =) whether we are giving tuitions, or working, think about your intention. Are we giving tuitions so that we can get money only? Or help our younger community to be better academically so that our community can rise?
Fear is syaitan’s friend. Let us all stop thinking that we can’t do something, and start thinking that we can! Coz Allah has given us the best, coz the best is from Him, and whatever we do must always be to his pleasure. Amin! May Allah guide you in whatever you are striving for now!
Thanks to Ustaz Mizi, Ustazah Maimunah and Suria Mohd for sharing their knowledge and experiences that really opened up my eyes and my heart."
